Laura's Story
Laura was given the spiritual name Kirtan in 2003 she loves to build community with chanting, singing and fun in her classes. Sharing the simple practical tools for daily living that yoga imparts is her joy.
With over three decades experience in personal development, Laura Marcotte is a yoga teacher and conscious living expert who takes the timeless wisdom of yoga, and makes it powerfully accessible to all.
Steeped in both Kundalini and Hatha yoga and a recognized specialist in yoga for addiction and recovery, Laura has spent thousands of hours teaching clients in every stage of recovery at the Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California, Promises Treatment Center and Sage Recovery Center, both in Austin, Texas.
Laura has served as faculty in an internationally renown Yoga Teacher Training Program since 2008, and currently leads comprehensive programs in Therapeutic Yoga for Addiction and Recovery and Teaching Yoga to Children and Adolescents. Her passion for teaching and empowering children of all ages inspired her, as a mother of two young sons in 2006, to design and develop the yoga curriculum currently used by the Austin Independent School District for grades K-12.
Now the mother of two grown men, Laura lives with her husband Austin, Texas and teaches teachers, public classes and works with clients privately. She offers monthly healing events incorporating gongs, crystal bowls, chimes, mindfulness, movement, meditation, community, and fun.
Laura finds courage and joy from her daily meditation practice and her mission is to share yoga as a simple, practical tool that brings grace and ease to daily life.

My daughter has been a yoga student of Ms. Kirtan for 15 years now. She has cerebral palsy and needed yoga to help her with strength and balance. Ms. Kirtan has helped her with her physical strength and mental strength, and built up her confidence and self esteem. She is a wonderful, kind, compassionate teacher and a beautiful human being.

Kirtan makes you feel welcome and supported; no matter your yoga experience, abilities, age or flexibility.
And finally, she is funny! I always leave a yoga class lead by Kirtan feeling a little better about life.

”Kirtan is such a fabulous example of the truism. You feel good in her presence as a teacher – accepted, safe, and encouraged.”

Kirtan has taught with Yoga Yoga since 2004 … it never fails that when I see, talk to or even just get an email from Kirtan, I smile and it makes that moment bright. Thank you to Kirtan for all that you do as a teacher, mother and in our community.

Studying with Laura was a big draw for me. Not only her years of experience teaching Kundalini/Hatha yoga within the field of addiction, but also her light hearted "take what you need" approach to practicing yoga, meditation and self care.
